Following a tip off, troops of 20 Battalion with Headquarters in Serti, conducted a routine cordon and search operations at Nyongo village, south west of Mayo-ndaga in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State on 27 March 2018. During the operation, 30 rustled cows and one slaughtered cow were recovered from the cattle rustlers. The 3 suspected cattle rustlers, Amuyude Yaya- 45 years, Julie Adamu- 27 years, and Paul Samuel- 35 years, were caught with parts of the rustled cow they killed. The ring leader of the cattle thieves, Mr Umar- 35 years, was equally arrested during the preliminary investigation that followed. The slaughtered cow was identified by its owner, Mr Taddido Mojammad.
In a related development, a cordon and search operations was carried out at the same day in Hurun-Kumbum, troops also arrested another set of cattle rustlers. The suspects, Mr Mann Buba – 27 years and Mr Ibrahim Mohammed – 26 years were apprehended with parts of the cows believed to have been rustled.
The Commanding Officer 20 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel MS Adamu thanked the Jauro of Mayo - ndaga for providing timely and credible information that led to the arrest of the cattle rustlers. He appealed to the community to continue to be law abiding, provide security agents with timely information on crimes and respect constituted authority. The 30 recovered cows were later handed over to the Jauro of Mayo - ndaga and the representative of the Chairman, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State for onward delivery to the owner(s).
The general public is advised to continue to remain vigilant and report strange movements as well as activities of the criminals promptly to the nearest military formation.
